Free school breakfast increases in Missouri at record levels

Federal studies have shown that school breakfasts improved students’ ability to focus in class and increased students’ chances of graduating from high school.

According to Food Research & Action Center (FRAC), Missouri ranked 15th on a national list of free school breakfast providers in the 2017-2018 school year. Despite the record level rank, however, child hunger remains a serious problem in many counties in Missouri, including in Boone County, Columbia, MO. “Especially for single parent households that are working one or multiple jobs…there’s not enough time in the day to sit down and cook a hot, healthy meal,” says the Executive Director Valorie Livingston.
